Mattress facts and Myths

If you are searching for a new mattress/bed, please look over our facts and myths.

we often hear myths about what we should look for in a mattress and how to care for them.
But which ones are true?

Be sure you know
fact
from fiction
with this
guide that puts
mattress
misconceptions
to put to bed.

Fact #1
Mattress age is a big
contributor to mattress
quality. Those who sleep
on a mattress less than 8 years
old have much better sleep than
those with old mattresses.

Fact # 2
You should chose a mattress
that is best for you. Everyone is different,
so try different mattresses to make
sure you chose one that  provides the
greatest pain relief and comfort
for you.

Fact # 3
Mattresses usually have a life
span of around 7 years. It’s best to change it
every 8 years, as it will have lost its original
comfort, support and may host some “ unpleasantness”
On average we lose over 1 cup of fluid each night
and shed 454 grams of dead skin cells in a year.

Fact # 4
Mattresses gain weight over time
as they absorb dead skin, dust
mites, oil and moisture.  With all
those dust mites and dead skin
cells, your mattress is likely to be
heavier than when you brought it.

Fact # 5
The types of spring and comfort
layers are more important to
overall durability and satisfaction.
There are three main types: open
coil, continuous spring and pocket
spring.

Fact # 6
The advanced construction of
mattresses today means there is
no need for flipping, but rotating is still
recommended unless you have a no-turn or
memory foam mattress.

Fact # 7
Most Mattress protectors do not make your mattress
immune from dust mites and other allergens: They can
only protect your mattress from dirt and spillages.
Our Pro-tect-a bed Mattress Protectors are  waterproof
with ten year protection.  And help with dust mites  and
allergens.

Fact # 8
Mattress toppers primarily add
cushioning and pressure point relief.
If your mattress is no longer providing support
or is too sofa, a mattress topper won’t make much difference.
In a US study, 63% of back pain sufferers reported improvement
after sleeping on a new mattress.
